Physicist Marcie Roselli’s world is reeling out of control after the death of her daughter in a car accident on an icy Colorado roadway. The specter of her dead child keeps Marcie teetering on the edge of reality as she battles to reclaim her own life from the depths of despair. When her cousin pleads for Marcie to return to their New Jersey hometown to assist her cousin’s family in crisis, Marcie reluctantly does so. She feels emotionally unprepared to reconnect with her estranged father or confront the truth surrounding long-buried tragic family secrets. Her psychological angst heightens when she discovers that her brilliant but psychologically vulnerable niece, suffers from the exact same delusions as Marcie. The scientist in Marcie reasons that two previously unconnected individuals cannot both experience the same hallucinations. When her niece is kidnapped, Marcie learns that the girl is an unknowing subject in a secret experiment targeting young schizophrenics—who may be the key to unlocking the portals to multi-universes. Dr. Roselli must navigate a path strewn with danger to rescue her niece from powerful forces that have taken the girl or have her life shattered once again.
