Leoshine's father disappears, then returns with strange ideas. He tells her she is special, but not why. When the invader, Avram comes with his servant Resham, they hold Leoshine captive, dress her up, and parade her as an example of the "good" they bring. Aeons ago, Avram's people established Leoshine's planet and atmosphere. After an intergalactic accident, Leoshine's people threw their progenitors off the planet thinking they could sustain the science by themselves. They couldn't. Avram represents their last hope to reestablish the "Dome" and society that has dwindled to one small town surrounded by a wild, outlaw-ridden forest. Resham grew up under Leoshine's Dome, was kidnapped by Avram's people, and believes in the mission to rescue his people. At first he sees Leoshine as a threat to the mission because her brothers are rebels. Then he realizes, only she can influence the invader and save everyone from prejudice, ignorance, and themselves. But first he must save Leoshine.
