Iris Demming, her mom and little brother, with their alien pet, Omni, are on the way to the Moon when they’re suddenly swept into a wormhole, and emerge in unfamiliar space, victim to an unknown saboteur. Their pilot, the voice of an artificial intelligence, has been transformed and the little family is now lost and alone in a strange universe.
After her grief and terror subside, Iris begins to work with the newly sympathetic pilot to try to make their way back. They must explore a number of semi-Earthlike planets in an effort to locate an advanced race of beings. As they do so, the family and their alien pet must deal with occasionally terrifying encounters.
