Although Cicely, Marva's former teacher, has her own problems, she becomes a substitute mother to Marva and June and tries to help them overcome the effects of their abuse. Marva finds some peace when she becomes a Christian, but will she one day receive the punishment she deserves, or the forgiveness she longs for?
